Penske shock absorbers, first choice of most teams in Formula One, IndyCar and NASCAR, were also the brand that took several South African champions to victory in 2011.
The final round of the WesBank Super Series at Zwartkops Raceway west of Pretoria on Saturday saw Penske-equipped drivers take the top three positions in the Bridgestone Production Car Championship as well as the WesBank V8 Supercar Championship.
Michael Stephen (Audi S4) took the overall and class A production car honours ahead of the Audi S4 of Johan Fourie and the Subaru WRX STI, while Gary Formato (Ford Focus ST) took the class T honours with team-mate Shaun Duminy fourth.
Jimmy Auby relied on Penske shocks on his way to winning the overall WesBank V8 championship in his Super GT class Ford Falcon, as did Larry Wilford's GT class-winning Ford Falcon. All WesBank V8 teams use Penske.
"We've worked hard to establish the Penske name in local motor sport and now we're reaping the rewards," said Justin Waddington of Shock Logic, the Johannesburg-based importer and distributor.
The American shock absorber brand, whose name is associated with one of the United States' most successful racing drivers and team owners, Roger Penske, is a leading brand globally and is fast making a name for itself in South Africa.
Shock Logic was established by Waddington five years ago to provide a specialist shock absorber service to the motor racing community. The company is also an agent for Custom Axis racing shocks, Radflo suspension technology and Eibach springs.
"Penske is by far the most successful brand across a wider range of applications," says Waddington. "Penske shocks are available for any form of race car, bike and quad in circuit racing, drags, oval, SuperMoto and classic racing (such as the Bailey GT40, Lola and Le Mans LMP project car). We have also done many STD fitments for Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Lamborghini and even Koenigsegg."
Shock Logic provides a service where shock absorber absorber orders are unique and built to the customer's specifications and requirements. All Penske shocks can be rebuilt and serviced.
Most teams in NASCAR and IndyCar, America's two most popular forms of motor sport use Penske shocks. Almost every F1 team uses the Penske Inerter, known as a Mass Damper or J Damper, which is now commercially available. It has been incorporated into the shock absorber as a one-piece unit as featured on the all-new Dallara IndyCar for the 2012 season.
