
The hugely popular Pro Tour Motor Racing Road Show boasting multi-million rand fields of cars and superbikes has saved the day for at least one more round of action packed racing at the troubled Kyalami circuit.
As South Africa's proudly proclaimed premier and world renowned F1 Grand Prix circuit, rebuilt in the early 1990's to cater for modern F1 cars, superbikes and touring cars, Kyalami has been the landscape on which behind the scenes battles for control and ownership have for months again raged, to the detriment of local motorsport and its competitors, but Pro Tour will once more host the thrilling sound and activity of supercars driven around the Midrand circuit in anger on the 11th and 12th November.
The spectacle of the only racing version of the Nissan GT-R on the African continent, a strong field of ultra modern Ferraris (some worth R2.8 mil each), and arguably the quickest Porsche on a South African track in the form of a recently entered 600kw Porsche GT2 RS from Cape Town, will keep spectators on the edge of their seats at Kyalami for the last time this year.
Boasting around R65 mil's worth of supercars, the Altech GT Challenge will be the top viewing pleasure on the programme consisting of 7 different racing categories, including a huge field of over 30 entries for the only one-make superbike series in South Africa, the Red Square Kawasaki ZX10 Challenge and the field of 50 plus hot hatches competing for the same piece of tarmac in the spectacular Goldwagen Challenge.
Pro Tour promoter and CEO Lindsay Steyn said that the agreement to host the final round of the 2011 Pro Tour was only concluded late on Friday (14th) - after a lengthy period of well intentioned negotiation between the various stake holders eventually produced a deserving winner – Motorsport and it's competitors.
"Without exception, the Pro Tour competitors love racing at Kyalami which is a true driver's circuit, and I am absolutely over the moon that we are able to once again host a premium event at Kyalami, and give the public an opportunity to come out in their droves to enjoy the spectacle of the inherent top class racing throughout the fields and to publicly show their support for South African Motorsport in the region on the 12th November" said Steyn.
As recently as August this year the Pro Tour was alternatively staged at Welkom's Phakisa Raceway in the nearby Northern Free State which turned out to be a massive success, with motorsport fans from all over flocking to the circuit so as not to miss out on the Pro Tour Motor Racing Road Show spectacle.
Rumours have been rife about the future of Kyalami as Gauteng's and the country's premier motorsport complex, but Pro Tour has nonetheless further committed itself to the cause of motorsport and it's competitors first, and looking ahead, again sought solutions which are in the best interests of South African Motorsport.
"In spite of these rumours, Pro Tour's commitment is still encompassing of all regions and at this stage, no less than 4 of the 9 rounds of the 2012 Pro Tour season are earmarked to take place at Kyalami and Phakisa" said Steyn, adding that the circuit racing calendar for 2012 is yet to be finalised by MSA, the official controlling body of South African Motorsport.
The final 2011 Pro Tour event at Kyalami takes place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th November, promising to be the biggest Kyalami racing event of the year as far as entries and on circuit action and entertainment is concerned.
