There is a new sponsor – BELL – for the upcoming BELL Junior National, the fourth round of the 2011 series that will take place on 25 June in an area (Mkonge Farm) not previously used for a round of the Junior National Off-road Championship.

It will also be the first national event organised by the KwaZulu-Natal-based club, Zululand Motorsport Affiliation Club (ZMSA). Members of the club have, however, lots of organisational experience as they have been involved in motorsport, racing and the organising of events for many years while they know the Zululand area like the back of their hands.

BELL Equipment is no stranger to off-road racing on regional and national level and the sponsor was also involved in one of the biggest off-road motorcycle and quad race held in 2004 in KZN when 563 riders tackled this national event. BELL Equipment has been manufacturing vehicles since 1954 and has stretched its wings wider than South Africa with ties to John Deere in North America while they also have a plant in Germany. The company also sponsors the Thanda Royal Zulu soccer team competing in the Premier Soccer League.

BELL and ZMSA together with the landowners and wide group of supporters structured the BELL Junior National that will consist of two 35 kilometre loops – one for the motorcycle classes (in the junior category it is the 65cc and Junior 85cc Classes and the Senior 85cc; 125cc and Senior Open Motorcycle Classes) and one for the quad category classes (the Junior Open and Junior Modified Quad Classes as well as the Senior Open Quad Class and Ladies Quad Class in the senior category).

The BELL Junior National will also form the fourth round of the KZN regional off-road championship and competitors will compete on the same route. Competitors in the junior (national) classes compete for about two hours while senior competitors race for about three hours and competitors from all over South Africa and as far as the Cape, Kimberley, Port Elizabeth, the Free State and Gauteng will be in action.

According to the organisers, the routes will consist of typical KZN terrain that reminds one of the bushveld. Riders will race next to pineapple fields and through trees on a route that will consist of a combination of technical and some less technical sections that will supply competitors with an enjoyable, but testing race. As the race will take place in the dry season, chances of rain is extremely limited and clear skies with humid weather can be expected.

Competitors can enter until 17 June for the BELL Junior National and late entries will be accepted until 21 June 2011.

Documentation for the BELL Junior National will start at 14h00 on Friday, 24 June at the Hluhluwe Protea Hotel & Safari and will continue from 07h00 on Saturday at the race venue. Competitors in the junior categories will tackle the race at 08h30 while the senior riders will race from 12h00. Spectators are welcome and will be able to view the action at various points next to the route.
