Mazda’s latest version of their iconic roadster officially started production earlier this week.
Production was started at the company’s Ujina Plant N0.1, near its global headquarters in Hiroshima, with the first cars destined for the US and Europe.
Customers there can expect delivery in early 2017, whilst the RF will reach SA shores middle next year.
The MX-5 RF embodies all the magic one can expect from a small purposeful roadster. The Jinba-Ittai philosophy, meaning driver and car in perfect harmony, has stuck with the MX-5 throughout its 27-year history.
The RF stands for retractable fastback, allowing the driver to have a fixed roof that can still open when desired, combining the best of both worlds.
Earlier in the year MX-5 production passed 1 million units, making it one of the all-time best selling sportscars. In all, this legendary roadster has bagged 280 different automotive awards around the world, which include 2016 World Car of the Year and 2016 World Car Design of the Year for the 4th generation ND model.
