Opel’s compact SUV gets an end-of-year face-lift, along with a name change…
The name change comes in the form of the X, which is now an new indicator signifying Opel’s crossovers and SUV’s across the range. The MOKKA X will be the 1st car from Opel to carry this name-sake.
More interestingly, the facelift bring a fresh new, slightly revised, face to the MOKKA X courtesy of some new, modern, headlights that feature daytime running LED’s. This addition really makes the MOKKA X seem like a more modern car.
“Opel is on its way to achieving its vision of becoming the second largest passenger car brand in Europe by 2022. Part of this success is a renewed focus on bringing competitive new products to market, in fact the MOKKA X is the 13th new or refreshed Opel to be launched in South Africa since 2012,” said Ian Nicholls, President and Managing Director, GM Sub-Saharan Africa.
Mechanically, the MOKKA X remains broadly the same, featuring a 1.4-litre ECOTEC turbo motor that produces 103 kW and 200 Nm, with fuel economy figures of 5.9l/100km reported.
The interior has also seen some minor alterations, with some dash-architecture borrowed from the Astra, to create a cabin which also seems more modern. This revision features some ergonomic improvements too.
The trim levels have been altered to incorporate a new infotainment system that features a full colour display and seamless integration to the drivers mobile, this makes the MOKKA X the best-connected compact SUV in SA.
The MOKKA has seen some wonderful sales-figures globally, with over 600 000 sold since its introduction in 2012, with 2 672 of those sold here in SA.
