Maserati’s very successful 4-door saloon has recently been updated to be more menacing and luxurious than ever before…

The new Quattroporte will retain Ferrari-powerplants across the rage, with the most powerful being the Quattroporte GTS’ twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8, which produces 395 kW and 710 Nm. This makes for a 4.7 second sprint to 100 and a 310 km/h top speed.

Further down the range, a twin-turbo Ferrari 3.0-litre V6 is available in AWD and RWD. In both trims the motor will make 305 kW and 550 Nm, which is good for a 4.9- (AWD) and 5.1 seconds (RWD) 0-100 time and a 286 km/h top speed.

The range will be rounded off with a 205 kW, 600 Nm, 3.0-litre V6 Diesel. All cars will come with the latest 8-speed ZF automatic, electronic shock-absorbers, 50:50 weight distribution, thanks to aluminium in the chassis, body and suspension.

Aerodynamically, the Quattroporte has also been greatly improved with the addition of an electronically operated Air Shutter, which not only regulates engine temperature, but also helps with airflow. The front- and rear bumpers have been optimised to convey air underneath the car’s flat floor. All this reduces aerodynamic drag by 10%.

Another wonderful standard feature comes in the form of an Air Quality Sensor, which measures the levels of pollution in the external air, and prevents any of it coming into the cabin.

The updated Quattro’ is offered in 2 distinctive trim-levels; GranLusso and GranSport. These 2 trim-levels emphasise the luxurious- and sporty character of the Quattro’ respectively.

The GranLusso is offered with a subtly changed front- and rear bumper, wood-trim, and black-painted brake callipers. The GranSport also comes with subtly changed bodywork, as well as carbon detailing, 21” rims, and red brake callipers.

In both cases the interior remains beautifully simple, with the dash dominated by an 8.4” HD touch-screen.

A new package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is also available as an option in the new Quattroporte. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking. An additional new Surround View Camera is available as an option in combination with the Driver Assistance package.
