We all saw the video earlier in the year of what the world’s 1st fully electric hypercar, the Rimac Concept_One, did to a LaFerrari in a drag race… It wasn’t pretty, to say the least!

Now though, Rimac Automobili have brought us something even more extreme, they call it the Rimac Concept_S. Basically a stripped-down, powered-up, track-ready version of the Concept_One.

The original car produced 810 kW, which would seem like more than enough? Rimac thought otherwise, as the Concept_S produces an almighty 1,031 kW and 1,800 Nm of torque. And yet because it’s electric, all 1,800 Nm’s are available from 0-6500 rpm.

As the figures would suggest, it isn’t slow… The Concept_S will do 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 in 5.6 seconds, and 0-300 will done in a very swift 13.1 seconds, which is incredible if you remember that the Bugatti Veyron SS did 0-300 in 14.6 seconds, and even the World’s Quickest Production Car, the Hennessey Venom GT, does the same sprint in “only” 13.2 seconds.

Rimac also claim a 365 km/h top speed, which seems highly likely.

This astonishing acceleration is all down to Rimac’s revolutionary electric drivetrain, which consists of 4 electric motors, one on each wheel, along with a gearbox for each motor. The front wheels are hooked up to single-speed gearboxes, while the rear wheels are connected to 2-speed double-clutch gearboxes.

The fancy drivetrain is helped along further with the introduction of a unique, state-of-the art, All-Wheel Torque Vectoring System, that can increase or reduce power sent to each wheel more than 100 times every second.

Furthermore, the Concept_S has seen a 50 kg deduction in weight over the standard car, as well as the addition of an extreme aero-kit, which increases downforce by a full 30%.

The tyres fitted to the 20” monoblock forged aluminium rims are Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R’s, which are Pirelli’s most advanced non-racing tyre. The brakes are carbon ceramic units, and support a Regenerative Braking System that can absorb up to 400 kW under hard barking, impressive stuff indeed!

This entire setup ensures near-maximum traction at any given moment, making the Concept_S perhaps the ultimate track toy!
